Painted Brain in collaboration with local artist and musician Jennie Lawless had a great night of  painting on September 29, 2022. Lawless’ first time teaching was a success, and she did an excellent job leading participants through the process of creating their unique self-portraits. Even though the event was free, generous participants brought donations to support Painted Brain’s mission of mental health advocacy through art and  enterprise.

Painted Brain provided an assortment of food and wine for those who participated in the event. One Hope Wine provided the wine with 100% of the sales going to Painted Brain. Team members from Painted Brain that attended the event were Rayshell Chambers, Adrian Alfaro, Alfred  Coles, Teanna Ross, and Nina Saurez. The event took place at the Painted Brain Community  Center, where our participants were able to learn more about Painted Brain from our team while having a night of fun.

Our participants were asked to bring their favorite selfie photo or small mirror to create their self-portrait masterpieces. Participants also made sure to bring their  own apron, or clothes that they didn’t mind getting a little color on. Canvas, and painting  materials were provided for those doing self-portraits (though thankfully, our participants’ clothes were still paint-free at the end of the night).

This paint night was such a success that Painted Brain is considering hosting similar events in the future! Feel free to visit our Community Center located at 5980 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 to find out more about what Painted Brain does. The center  is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
