painted brain a safe haven for women

By: Angela Tuckerman & Allison Peters

In our society, female-dominated spaces are far and few between. The mission of Women’s Day is to create a safe space for women to come together to discuss, create, and unite.

Women’s Day is on Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm at Painted Brain. It aims to encourage a space for women to feel secure to express themselves. Unfortunately, due to societal pressures, women are more likely to be vulnerable and honest with other women. Painted Brain provides a safe haven with different mediums of art, music and daily discussion.womens rights are human rights

Here is some evidence from the World Women’s Health Organization that support the motives behind women’s day:

✔ Overall rates of psychiatric disorder are almost identical for men and women but striking gender differences are found in the patterns of mental illness.

✔ Gender determines the differential power and control men and women have over the socioeconomic determinants of their mental health and lives, their social position, status and treatment in society and their susceptibility and exposure to specific mental health risks.

✔ Depression, predicted to be the second leading cause of global disability burden by 2020, is twice as common in women.

✔ Gender-specific risk factors for common mental disorders that disproportionately affect women include gender-based violence, socioeconomic disadvantage, low income, and income inequality, low or subordinate social status and rank and unremitting responsibility for the care of others.respect womens rights

✔ The high prevalence of sexual violence to which women are exposed and the correspondingly high rate of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following such violence, renders women the largest single group of people affected by this disorder.

Please help empower women everywhere and share our movement to reinforce women’s day.
